Can I Ride Dance: The Song, the Steps and How the TikTok Trend Started

Everything about the Can I Ride dance: the SIDEPIECE and 95 South song, who made the choreography, the routine count by count, why it took off in October 2026 — and how to make your own version from two photos.

Can I Ride Dance: The Song, the Steps and How the TikTok Trend Started

If your For You page has been full of pairs bouncing side by side to a house beat while a voice asks "can I ride?", you've seen the Can I Ride dance. It's short, it's easy to sync, and it needs exactly two people — which is why it's become the go-to "dance for 2 people" of October 2026. Here's the song, the routine count by count, where it came from, and how to make your own version.

What song is it?

The sound is "Can I Ride" by SIDEPIECE and 95 South. SIDEPIECE is the house duo of Party Favor and Nitti Gritti; 95 South is the Miami bass group behind the 1993 hit "Whoot, There It Is". The 2026 single puts a bass-music vocal over a house beat, and its hook asks: "daddy, can I ride in your decked out Cadillac?". It reached the top 10 of the US dance chart.

That hook is the part every video uses — about ten seconds, which is the whole dance.

Who made the dance?

Posts credit the choreography to Temi and Spencer Anderson. The routine spread on TikTok in early October 2026.

The take that pushed it into the mainstream came from @joseriveraa_, who posted a version with a friend on 9 October; it passed 1.5 million views. Within a week the most-watched versions were trios, siblings, best friends — and, inevitably, AI versions.

The routine, count by count

The dance fits the ten-second hook. Both dancers stand side by side, facing the phone, and do the same moves in sync:

  1. Line up (0–1 s). One steps back, the other steps up, until you're shoulder to shoulder.
  2. Hands at the chest (1–2.5 s). A hand on the heart, then a fist rolling in front of the chest, then crossed arms — the "can I ride" part.
  3. Claps (2.5–4 s). Open the arms, clap in front of the chest, rub the hands, knees bouncing.
  4. Swing (4–6 s). Swing both arms out to the sides and clap at the hips, shoulders and hips moving with the beat.
  5. Flick and kick (6–7.5 s). Flick the wrists down, then kick one knee up and land back in the groove.
  6. The grin (7.5–10 s). Loose bounces, a smile at the camera, and mouth the last line straight into the lens.

The trick is keeping it small and relaxed: the moves are mostly hands and bounce, so it reads best in a full-body shot from a phone propped at chest height.

Why it took off

  • It's built for two. Two-person dances are easy to share — you tag the person you're doing it with.
  • It's short. Ten seconds, one take, no transitions to edit.
  • The sound is instantly recognizable. A 90s bass hook over a modern house beat hits both nostalgia and the club.
  • Anyone can do it. No floor work, no flips: siblings, couples, parents and kids all post it.

How to make an AI version

If you'd rather skip the practice, our Can I Ride template makes the video from two photos: the two people in your photos dance the whole routine side by side, in a 10-second 9:16 video with the song. Photo 1 dances on the left, photo 2 on the right. The step-by-step guide is in How to make the Can I Ride dance AI video.
